The Islamic State (IS) jihadist group claimed responsibility for a deadly blast at a sports club in Kabul, Afghanistan, through its Telegram channel. The explosion occurred in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood, a predominantly Shiite Hazara community, targeting a sports club that offered combat sports training. The blast resulted in at least four deaths and seven injuries. The IS group asserted that it used a parcel bomb in a room where Shiites gathered. The Taliban authorities have not yet responded to the IS claim. The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Afghanistan despite the Taliban’s control since August 2021.
