The Telangana High Court has initiated a suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in response to a news report published by The Hindu regarding decaying bodies at Gandhi hospital mortuary. The report highlighted that some of the cold storage boxes in the mortuary were not functioning, leading to the decomposition of bodies. Of the 60 available cold storage boxes, only 25 were operational, causing difficulties for medical professionals, para-medical staff, and police personnel. The High Court has summoned top officials, including the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary of the Medical and Health Department, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, and the Chief Superintendent of Gandhi hospital, as respondents. The court is expected to issue instructions to the government after reviewing the suo motu PIL petition.
