IndiGo, India’s largest airline, anticipates further grounding of aircraft in the fourth quarter due to Pratt & Whitney engine issues. Presently, approximately 40 planes are grounded due to these concerns. To address this, IndiGo is implementing various mitigating measures, including exploring additional capacity from the secondary market. IndiGo’s CFO, Gaurav M Negi, highlighted the global impact of powder metal issues raised by Pratt & Whitney, noting that an increased number of engine removals for shop visits are expected between 2023 and 2026, with a significant portion planned for 2023 and early 2024. The airline is in continuous communication with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to navigate these challenges.
