Deepak Mohanty, Chairperson of PFRDA, advocates raising the income tax benefit for corporate employers contributing to the National Pension System (NPS) to 12% and extending the systematic lump sum withdrawal (SLW) to 100%. Currently, employers can claim a tax deduction of up to 10% of the employee’s salary under Section 80CCD(2), with a maximum limit of ₹7.5 lakh per employee annually. The proposal aims to enhance NPS acceptance in both organized and unorganized sectors. The suggestion was made during the NPS Chintan Shivir, organized by PFRDA and NPS Trust, where banking secretary Vivek Joshi emphasized simplifying the NPS enrollment process.
