The Indian-American community joyously performed the traditional Gujarati dance, Garba, in Times Square to commemorate its inclusion in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Despite near-freezing temperatures, the diaspora showcased the vibrant dance form, attracting onlookers and participants. Addressing the gathering, Acting Consul General of India in New York, Dr. Varun Jeph, emphasized the significance of celebrating Garba at Times Square, a global crossroads. The Federation of Indian Associations and the Consulate General of India collaborated for the event, expressing gratitude to UNESCO for recognizing Garba and Prime Minister Modi for his leadership. This marks India’s 15th inscription on the prestigious list.
