The Manipur Police have taken an unprecedented step by filing a criminal case against the Assam Rifles, India’s oldest paramilitary force. Accused of “obstruction of duty” and “criminal intimidation,” personnel from the 9th battalion of Assam Rifles allegedly enabled Kuki militants to escape to safety, leading to accusations of arrogance. The force has faced ongoing criticism from Meitei civil society groups and BJP MLAs due to ethnic violence beginning on May 3, resulting in over 150 deaths.
