Extensive damage has been reported to the earth and ballasts beneath the railway tracks between Srivaikuntam and Nazareth railway stations in the Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur section in Tamil Nadu, following torrential rains last week. The earthen bund has been washed away over a depth of more than 20 feet, with the worst damage occurring between Srivaikuntam and Nazareth. Despite ongoing restoration efforts, some areas remain inaccessible due to slushy soil. Engineers are working to dump boulders to fill missing portions, re-lay the earthen bund, and restore signals and telecommunication lines. Rail operations on the Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur section have been suspended since December 17.
