Sony Group Corp is convening a board meeting on Friday to make a crucial decision regarding its $10-billion merger with Zee Entertainment Enterprises in India. The merger, aimed at creating the country’s largest broadcast company, has faced challenges related to leadership disputes. Sony has advocated for its India MD and CEO, NP Singh, to lead the merged entity temporarily, while Zee’s Managing Director and CEO, Punit Goenka, faces unresolved issues. Despite Goenka offering to step down, Zee has not agreed to Singh’s appointment. The merger, initially expected by December 20, 2023, faces a deadline extension expiring on January 20.
