The National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) announced that around five tonnes of tomatoes imported from Nepal will be sold at a subsidized rate of ₹50 per kilogram in Uttar Pradesh on August 17. The NCCF is handling both domestic procurement and imports of tomatoes for the Central government, offering relief to consumers from high prices. The move follows the direction of the Union Consumer Affairs Ministry. While some imported tomatoes have already been distributed, the short shelf life prevents them from being sold in other parts of India. Tomato prices had risen due to heavy rainfall in key producing areas.
