The Move Forward Party (MFP), the progressive party that won the most seats in Thailand’s last election, faces possible dissolution after losing a court case over its pledge to reform the kingdom’s royal insult laws. The Constitutional Court ruled that MFP’s campaign promise to loosen lese-majeste legislation amounted to an attempt to overthrow the monarchy. Following this decision, a formal request for MFP’s dissolution was lodged with the Election Commission of Thailand. The party had previously upended Thailand’s political order by finishing first in the May 2023 election with a platform to reform strict lese-majeste laws.
