Health Minister Ma. Subramanian announced that there have been 32 brain-dead organ donors in Tamil Nadu since the beginning of the year. Despite the ongoing efforts in organ donations, the number of individuals on the waitlist for organ transplantation remains high, totaling 6,939. The waitlist comprises individuals in need of kidneys, liver, heart, lung, hands, small bowel, and combinations of kidney and liver, kidney and pancreas, and pancreas/small bowel/stomach. The Minister also highlighted that, since the Chief Minister’s announcement in September 2023, 4,097 individuals have pledged to donate their organs. The family of a 57-year-old man, declared brain dead at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital, consented to donate his organs, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to organ donation in the state.
