The private lander developed by Intuitive Machines successfully made the first U.S. touchdown on the moon in more than 50 years. The landing marked a significant achievement for the private space sector and made Intuitive Machines the first private company to achieve a lunar landing. Despite initial communication challenges, the company confirmed that the lander had touched down upright. The lander carried six experiments for NASA and aimed to reach a site near the moon’s south pole, a location with potential scientific interest due to the presence of frozen water. This successful mission contributes to NASA’s efforts to commercialise lunar deliveries and advance lunar exploration.
