Vietnam has adopted a hydrogen development strategy aiming to produce 100,000-500,000 metric tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2030, with a target of 10-20 million tonnes by 2050, including green hydrogen. The strategy aligns with Vietnam’s energy transition goals, contributing to national targets for climate change, green growth, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Hydrogen is intended to partially replace natural gas and coal in power plants by 2030, and by 2050, hydrogen is expected to account for 10% of the country’s electricity generation. Funding for hydrogen production will come from public and private sources, including green bonds and the Just Energy Transition Partnership.
