The Indian Parliament, through the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, has called for oral evidence on assurances related to financial scams and accountability within the banking sector. The Committee on Government Assurances, chaired by Dr. M. Thambidurai, MP, has summoned banking secretary Vivek Joshi, CBI officials, and CEOs of various Public Sector Banks, including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, and Bank of Baroda. This move is in response to banking fraud cases exceeding Rs 1,000 crore, implicating multiple banks. The summoned officials are expected to provide evidence related to these scams during the oral proceedings.
