The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) introduced the Chakshu portal, allowing users to report fraudulent calls, SMS, and WhatsApp messages received within the last month. Alongside, the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) was launched, facilitating data sharing on suspected fraudulent connections among stakeholders like payment wallets and law enforcement agencies. Telecom service providers will re-verify reported numbers and disconnect those failing re-verification. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the platform’s real-time data sharing capability, preventing fraud. The Sanchar Sathi portal, operational since May 2023, has prevented frauds worth ₹1,008 crore, disconnected 59 lakh fraudulent connections, and blocked over 1 crore cybercrime-linked handsets. Additionally, 1.5 lakh suspicious point-of-sale terminals were blacklisted, and 71,000 FIRs were filed based on evidence gathered through the portal.
