Eighteen Hindu refugees from Pakistan residing in Ahmedabad were granted Indian citizenship during a camp attended by Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi. With this, a total of 1,167 Hindu refugees from Pakistan in Ahmedabad district have been granted Indian citizenship. The camp, held at the District Collector’s office, emphasized the commitment of both central and state governments to integrate citizens into society. The initiative aligns with Gazette notifications empowering District Collectors to grant citizenship to minority communities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. The recent implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, further facilitates citizenship for undocumented non-Muslim migrants from these countries.
