The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) has filed a petition in a Delhi court to allow its leader, Engineer Rashid, currently in Tihar jail, to participate in the Parliament’s oath-taking ceremony. Rashid, arrested in 2019 on terror-funding charges, won the Lok Sabha election from Baramulla. The party aims to expand its membership drive to central and south Kashmir. Despite Rashid’s incarceration, AIP remains hopeful about his release and plans to continue its political activities. Rashid’s victory in the election reflects support for his performance and commitment, especially from J&K’s youth.
