Relations between Maharashtra’s ruling BJP and its ally, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction, are strained after senior BJP leader Suresh Dhas blamed the NCP alliance for the BJP’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha election. Dhas, from Marathwada, criticized the inclusion of the ideologically different NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, into the Mahayuti alliance, previously comprised of Shiv Sena and BJP. The BJP won only nine of 29 contested seats, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi secured 31 of the state’s 48 seats. Dhas highlighted internal discontent among BJP workers and the failure of NCP members to support BJP candidates, fueling calls to reconsider the alliance.
