Andhra Pradesh is spearheading the development of Pumped Storage Hydropower Projects (PSHPs) with a combined potential of 42,020 megawatts (MW). The state has submitted feasibility reports and detailed project reports for 21 projects, totaling 21,250 MW, awaiting approvals from various departments and agencies. The 1,680 MW Pinnapuram project in Nandyal district is on track for completion in 2024, with other projects like Gandikota (1,000 MW) and Chitravathi (500 MW) securing necessary permissions. Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to PSHPs aligns with the state’s energy policy, providing grid stability and meeting peak-hour demands while reducing reliance on expensive power purchases.
