A man was apprehended in Noida by the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) for allegedly disseminating an AI-generated “deepfake” video of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials revealed on May 2. The video aimed to propagate misleading information, bolstering anti-national agendas, stated Additional Director General of Police (U.P. STF) Amitabh Yash. An FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act at the Noida Cyber Crime police station. The accused, Shyam Kishor Gupta, purportedly the president of the ‘Rehri-Patri’ welfare association, was arrested and faces legal action.
