India claims to be the first country to demonstrate the capability of engaging four aerial targets simultaneously at 25 km ranges using a single firing unit with the ‘Akash’ missile. The test was conducted by the Indian Air Force, showcasing the indigenous production of the missile. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) manufactured the Akash missiles at its Kanchanbagh facility, highlighting the focus on ‘Make in India’ with maximum indigenous content. Additionally, the Astra missile, a beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile, was flagged off for supply to the Indian Air Force. The indigenously developed Astra missile has a range of over 100 km and positions BDL among global companies capable of manufacturing state-of-the-art air-to-air missiles.
