A Bengaluru consumer court has ordered Swiggy to compensate a customer Rs 5,000 for failing to deliver a ‘Nutty Death by Chocolate’ ice cream order placed via the app in 2023. Despite the payment, Swiggy falsely marked the order as delivered and refused to issue a refund, leading the customer to seek redressal from the consumer forum. Swiggy’s defence, arguing its intermediary status and blaming the delivery agent, was dismissed by the court. The bench found Swiggy guilty of poor service and unfair practices, ruling that it couldn’t escape responsibility despite its intermediary role. The court ordered Swiggy to refund Rs 187, pay Rs 3,000 compensation, and Rs 2,000 litigation costs to the complainant, rejecting the higher claim sought.
