To alleviate the impact of soaring onion prices, the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) announced the extension of its subsidized onion sale initiative to all states. The cooperative body had initially launched the program in Delhi-NCR and has now expanded its coverage from Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala. Operating on behalf of the central government, NCCF is retailing onions at Rs 25 per kg, utilizing the government’s buffer stock of 5 lakh tonnes. The move aims to address the recent surge in retail onion prices, reaching up to Rs 80 per kg in various parts of the country.
