Bihar reported its tenth bridge collapse in just over two weeks, with the latest incident occurring in Saran district on July 4, 2024. This small bridge over the Gandaki river, built 15 years ago, collapsed without causing any casualties but disrupting connectivity between villages in Saran and Siwan. Heavy rainfall and recent desilting work are suspected contributors. In response, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered a structural audit of all old bridges and urged immediate action from the road construction and rural works departments.
