Workers at the Canadian Airbus A220 jet assembly plant in Montreal approved a five-year contract with over three-quarters of the votes in favor, according to their union, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). The approval follows conciliation efforts after the rejection of two previous offers and a tentative agreement declined by members. The new contract includes a 23% salary increase over five years, improved group insurance access, and increased evening premiums. Although attempts for a four-day workweek for afternoon shifts were unsuccessful, the agreement averted a potential labor disruption that could have led to delivery delays to airlines. Airbus Canada aims to enhance production efficiency and cost control for the A220, a narrowbody jet smaller than the A320neo and 737 MAX.
