Shokat Ali, accused in a gold smuggling case wanted by the NIA, was brought back from Saudi Arabia through Interpol channels. The Interpol Red Notice, issued in September 2021, facilitated his arrest based on a request by the CBI. Ali’s involvement in smuggling gold bars seized at Jaipur International Airport in July 2020 led to his pursuit. Earlier, the CBI coordinated the return of a life convict, Narender Singh, from the UAE in February. Singh faced charges of murder and rioting dating back to 1994. The CBI’s effective coordination via Interpol resulted in the return of 29 criminals wanted by Indian law enforcement in 2023, highlighting its commitment to international cooperation in tackling crime.
