Kerala’s Minister for Local Self-Governments, M.B. Rajesh, has criticized the Union government, accusing it of attempting to weaken and interfere with various schemes implemented through local bodies. The latest instance cited is the Union government’s insistence on displaying the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) logo on houses constructed as part of the Kerala Government’s LIFE housing project. Rajesh argued that the Centre’s push for displaying logos claiming central funds overlooks Kerala’s substantial state funding for housing assistance. He also opposed conditions imposed by the Union government on the spending of funds allocated to local bodies, stating that it could reverse Kerala’s gains in decentralized planning.
