The Centre has transferred ownership of the Air India building in Mumbai to the Maharashtra government for Rs 1,601 crore. Additionally, Maharashtra has forgiven old dues of about Rs 300 crore payable by AI Assets Holdings Pvt Ltd. Established as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) in 2018, AIAHL manages non-core assets of Air India. Tata Sons acquired Air India in October 2021, and the transfer of ownership occurred in January 2022. The iconic building, with 46,470 square meters of space, will be utilized by Maharashtra government offices. Various entities, including JNPA and LIC, had shown interest before the acquisition.
