Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the road to an expected meeting between President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden won’t be “smooth-sailing.” During his visit to Washington, Wang met with Biden, Secretary of State Blinken, and National Security Advisor Sullivan, agreeing to work toward a bilateral meeting at the APEC summit in San Francisco. Wang stressed that achieving this meeting requires effort and cannot rely on “autopilot.” Despite ongoing tensions, both sides acknowledge the importance of maintaining dialogue. The meeting is part of recent high-level contacts amid strained U.S.-China relations during conflicts in Ukraine and Israel.
