Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated China’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s political, socioeconomic progress, and territorial integrity during a meeting with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. Both nations agreed to uphold principles of friendship, peace, mutual respect, and non-interference in internal affairs. President Xi pledged support for Sri Lanka’s development projects and emphasized bilateral relations based on mutual respect and productivity. The assurance follows Sri Lanka’s recent sovereign default and IMF’s call for debt restructuring involving Chinese creditors. China also pledged assistance for Sri Lanka’s infrastructure development projects, including airports and ports.
