Chandrachud cautioned against the perception of courts as “temples of justice” and judges as deities, emphasizing instead the role of judges as “servers of the people.” Speaking at an event in Kolkata, he underscored the importance of constitutional morality and the judiciary’s duty to uphold values like human dignity, equality, and tolerance. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also urged for a politically unbiased judiciary.
