At least 42 people have died in clashes between two communities in eastern Chad, the public security ministry reported. The conflict, occurring in a desert region prone to land disputes, involves sedentary farmers and nomadic breeders. The fighting, which led to the arrest of 175 individuals, resulted in significant property damage in the village of Tileguey. Efforts to reconcile the parties are underway, with Public Security Minister General Mahamat Charfadine Margui leading investigations at the scene. In Chad’s armed eastern and southern regions, tensions often escalate as farmers accuse herders of encroaching on their land and crops.
