Coal India Limited (CIL) surpasses its annual coal supply target for the power sector in the financial year 2023-2024, delivering 610.8 million tonnes (MT) against the set target of 610 MT. This achievement, achieved four days ahead of schedule, reflects a 5% growth compared to the previous year. CIL’s consistent increase in coal supplies has bolstered stockpiles at domestic coal-based power plants, now holding 47.1 MT. The surplus is expected to meet the rising power demand during the upcoming summer season. Additionally, India’s coal mining sector celebrates dispatching over 1 billion coal and lignite tonnes for the first time, credited to infrastructure expansion and improved logistics efficiency under the #GatiShakti policy.
