Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Karnataka, the Congress party has raised critical questions regarding the denial of permissions and funds for crucial irrigation projects, particularly the Mekedatu project. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, in a press conference, highlighted Karnataka’s release of an additional 1,000 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu since 2018-19 due to surplus rainfall in the state.However, despite Karnataka’s efforts, the Centre has consistently denied permission for the construction of the Mekedatu balancing reservoir across the river Cauvery.
