The Income Tax department issued a fresh notice of ₹1,823 crore to the Congress party for alleged discrepancies in tax returns from 2017-18 to 2020-21. Party officials, including Ajay Maken and Jairam Ramesh, denounced it as “tax terrorism” and announced plans to challenge it in the Supreme Court next week. The notice adds to the financial strain on the party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
