On June 11, Congress posed questions to new Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy regarding the privatization of steel plants in Visakhapatnam, Salem, and other locations. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the government’s plans to sell Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (Vizag Steel Plant), which supports over 100,000 livelihoods, alleging government negligence causing its decline. Ramesh demanded Kumaraswamy commit to not selling Vizag Steel to favored industrialists. He also highlighted past protests against the disinvestment of Salem Steel Plant and raised concerns about other plants in Bhadravati, Nagarnar, and Durgapur.
