The ‘Cookies’ program, initiated by Samagra Shiksha Kerala (SSK) in Kozhikode, aims to teach basic home management skills, particularly cooking, to boys. Integrated into summer camps covering various subjects, the program seeks to instill self-reliance and gender equality by emphasizing equal responsibility in household chores. Led by A.K. Abdul Hakeem, SSK’s district project coordinator, the initiative aims to promote values similar to those practiced in Scandinavian countries, where home science is part of school syllabi from Class 1. The success of ‘Cookies’ could lead to its replication in other districts.
