The T.N. Forest Department has introduced mini shower systems at the Elephant Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in M.R. Palayam near Tiruchi, aiding the captive elephants amid scorching summer temperatures. Adjacent to the daily walking path, each system can accommodate two elephants, offering a refreshing spray from water drawn from nearby borewells. With a larger shower already in place, this addition aims to help the animals combat the heat. Other measures include early morning walks, wet bamboo covers, and hydrating fruit snacks. Operated by the Forest Department, the center hosts 11 elephants relocated from across the state, each under the care of dedicated staff.
