The Covid subvariant JN.1, a descendant of BA.2.86, has been detected in parts of Kerala, India. The India SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has been monitoring the situation, and so far, no hospitalization or severe disease has been reported due to this variant. JN.1 was first detected in the United States in September 2023 and is known for its ability to spread faster and evade immunity.
