M.V. Govindan, the State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], has rejected claims by the opposition that a personality cult surrounding Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan dominates the government and party. Govindan accused right-wing corporate media of spreading this misinformation to influence public opinion against the government. He defended against recent criticisms, emphasizing that Jnanpith laureate M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s speech at the Kerala Literary Festival highlighted concerns about the centralization of power and personality cults, which was not specific to Kerala or Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He argued that the media misinterpreted Nair’s speech to attack the CPI(M) and the government.
