Daechang Seat Corp., a South Korean automotive seat frame manufacturer, plans to invest $72.5 million in a new factory in Savannah, Georgia, to supply components to Hyundai Motor Group’s upcoming electric vehicle (EV) and battery assembly plant in Ellabell, near Savannah. The move is part of Hyundai’s $7.6 billion investment in the region. The Hyundai facility, announced last year, aims to employ up to 8,500 people and begin vehicle production by 2024. Daechang Seat joins other suppliers committing nearly $2.3 billion for the Hyundai project, further boosting the automotive manufacturing ecosystem in the area.
