The Delhi High Court has granted permission to Engine Lease Finance BV to inspect an engine leased to SpiceJet, a low-cost carrier undergoing insolvency proceedings. The inspection will occur when the engine is grounded and once at the time of its re-delivery. The court directed SpiceJet to maintain status quo with regard to the engines, except for refurbishment, responding to the lessor’s claim that SpiceJet was “cannibalizing” parts after allegedly grounding the engine. SpiceJet and Engine Lease Finance BV had earlier informed the court of reaching an interim settlement, and SpiceJet is expected to pay over $2 million to the engine lessor by January.
