In response to scorching temperatures reaching nearly 50°C in parts of Delhi, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has directed that labourers at construction sites be granted a paid break from 12 noon to 3 p.m. The initiative, initially implemented by the Delhi Development Authority since May 20, aims to ensure the well-being of workers until temperatures drop below 40°C. Additionally, arrangements for providing water and coconut water to keep labourers hydrated have been mandated. Saxena has instructed various departments to take immediate action to safeguard workers and residents, including deploying water tankers for road sprinkling and activating sprinklers to tackle pollution.
