Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, stated that the Digital India Act (DIA), intended to replace the IT Act 2000, may not be implemented before the next general election due to the limited time available for extensive consultation. While the draft of the DIA is ready, Chandrasekhar emphasized the need for thorough consultations and suggested that the legislation might not be passed before the upcoming elections. He also mentioned that rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act will be released later in December for consultation and are expected to be notified by the end of December or early January.
