For a decade, Nagaraju, a 35-year-old tribal man from Mulakapalli, Andhra Pradesh, has awaited rehabilitation after being displaced by the Polavaram irrigation project. Despite promises since 2014, his family remains without the promised resettlement package. The project affects over 106,000 families, mainly tribals, across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh. Recent delays, political disputes, and significant cost escalations have prolonged their plight. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s announcement of a further four-year delay has deepened the despair of many displaced families.
