A section of Zaria Central Mosque in northwestern Nigeria collapsed during prayers on August 11, resulting in seven worshippers’ deaths. Around 23 people were hospitalized after the incident, which happened in one of northern Nigeria’s major cities. Videos depicted a significant roof collapse. The mosque, built in the 1830s, saw victims laid to rest with prayers offered for them. Kaduna Governor Uba Sani initiated an investigation and pledged aid to those affected by the tragedy. This incident adds to a series of building failures in Nigeria attributed to lax enforcement of safety regulations and insufficient maintenance.
