The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has submitted its initial charge sheet in the ongoing money laundering investigation involving Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo and key figures, including Lava International’s managing director, Hari Om Rai. The complaint, invoking sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), identifies Vivo-India as an accused, along with individuals previously arrested. The ED alleges that substantial remittances, nearly 50% of turnover, were sent from India to China to show significant losses in Indian companies and evade taxes. The investigation, which included raids on Vivo-India and affiliated entities, uncovered a money laundering network involving Chinese nationals and Indian companies. Hari Om Rai, denying involvement in alleged proceeds of crime, stated that his association with Vivo ended in 2014.
