The “One Health” concept, recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, is gaining global traction. India has been adopting this approach to strengthen its response to health crises. The concept isn’t new; early mentions date back to Hippocrates and Rudolf Virchow. With increasing urbanization and environmental changes, zoonotic diseases have risen, underlining the importance of One Health. It optimizes resource usage by fostering coordination among sectors like Health, Fisheries, and Environment. India is launching a “National One Health Mission” to consolidate existing initiatives. Collaboration, communication, coordination, and integration are the stages to effectively implement this approach and address health challenges holistically.
