Shameena, daughter of former India hockey captain N Mohammed Riaz, discovered her passion for squash during a visit to Madras Cricket Club at the age of ten. Now 18, she recently secured gold in the team event at the Khelo India Youth Games, adding to her achievements in World Junior Championships and National Games. Despite initial challenges, supportive parents and coaches kept her motivated. Riaz emphasizes the need for financial aid due to the high costs associated with squash. Alongside her sporting success, Shameena excels in academics, pursuing IT engineering. Her family hopes recent victories will attract the necessary support for her promising future.
