India’s state-owned gas utility, GAIL (India) Ltd, has entered a groundbreaking Rs 63,000-crore deal with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) for a 15-year supply of petrochemical feedstock. GAIL will source 600,000 tonnes per annum of propane from BPCL’s LPG import facility, supporting GAIL’s construction of India’s first propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant in Maharashtra. With a focus on polypropylene production, the facility aims to meet the rising demand, projected to reach 6.3 million tonnes by 2025. Described as a significant milestone for both companies, the collaboration is seen as a leap forward for India’s thriving petrochemical sector. Operations are slated to commence in 2025.
